Board President: Laurel Short
Laurel Short is a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Nurse Practitioner with Kansas City Bone & Joint Clinic. Her clinical practice includes comprehensive musculoskeletal and neurologic rehabilitation medicine. She is an active member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and the Academy of Spinal Cord Injury Professionals. Her passion is working with rehabilitation patients to maximize their function and wellness. Outside the office, she enjoys running, yoga, cooking, and spending time with her family.
Board Vice President: Zohra Hussaini
Zohra Hussaini is a Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner currently working for University of Kansas Health System as an outpatient Interventional Pain Management provider for the Department of Anesthesia. She manages patients with a variety of chronic pain syndromes and cancer related pain, with a focus on interventional treatment options. Zohra enjoys being involved locally and nationally to promote her profession and actively a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. She serves on the Advance Practice Provider Board at KU and participates in clinical research studies/trials within the Department of Anesthesia.
Board Secretary: Tracy Clark
Tracy graduated from St. Luke’s School of Nursing, Webster University, and the University of Kansas. She is board certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners as well as the Certification of Hospice and Palliative Credentialing Center. She is the executive director of The Society of Aesthetic Injectors. Tracy has experience as a nurse practitioner in many areas including underserved population medicine, retail health, gastric band center, aesthetic medicine, family medicine, perinatal health and hospice and palliative care as well as leadership and education. Tracy works in hospice and palliative and owns a private practice. She has been an educator throughout her career.
Board Treasurer: Teresa Kilkenny
Teresa Kilkenny is a board certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. Teresa’s passion is Pediatric Nursing for which she has worked in one capacity or another for 30 years. For the last 19 years she has been the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner for the Full Term Nursery at the University of Kansas Health System. She graduated in 1986 with an Associates degree in Nursing from Kansas City Kansas Community College, a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Kansas in 1987, a Master of Science degree from the University Kansas in 1994, a post graduate degree as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner from the University of Missouri Kansas City in 1996, and with great pride completed her terminal degree, the Doctorate in Nursing Practice, from the University of Kansas in 2014. She is married with 3 children ranging from 19-25 years old. She enjoys going to the lake and growing old with her husband of 27 years.
Liza Rodriguez is a Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner currently working for the University of Kansas Hospital. She is a Blood and Marrow Transplant (BMT) Nurse Practitioner coordinator in the Division of Hematology/Oncology. She carries national advance oncology certification as a NP. She manages the care of patients undergoing stem cell transplantation. Liza is also responsible for the coordination of the BMT NP team and staying well-informed of practice changes. Liza is co-principal investigator in multiple clinical research trials in the department of hematology and blood and marrow transplant. Liza is currently in her second year of doctoral studies at the University of Kansas School of Nursing. She is an active member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners as well as the Oncology Nursing Society. In her free time, she likes reading and taking long walks.
Board Membership Coordinator: Emily Curran Day
Emily Curran Day is a Family Health Nurse Practitioner working at Kansas University Medical Center. She works in the Integrative Medicine Clinic helping patients get to the underlying cause of their illness as well as teach them preventive tools for wellness. Integrative Medicine combines the best of conventional and alternative medicine to form a holistic approach to patient care.
When not at work, Emily enjoys swimming or jogging, catching up with friends over a meal, or reading her latest novel.
Board Education Coordinator: Susan Hofmann
Susan Hofmann began her nursing career in the Army Nurse Corps and obtained her Master of Science in nursing degree from the University of Kansas School of Nursing. She is trained as a family nurse practitioner. After a break from clinical practice, Susan returned to work at the KUMC School of Nursing and is a clinical adjunct faculty working with the Interprofessional Teaching Clinic. She is also an American Heart Association instructor. She is an active member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. Married with three kids, Susan enjoy running, reading, being outside and spending time with her family.
Past President: Jane Peterson
Jane started her career as a Critical Care nurse in Nebraska, then went on to earn a master’s degree in nursing with an emphasis in cardiovascular health and nursing education. She later earned a post-master’s certificate as a family nurse practitioner and a Ph.D. in nursing research. Jane has worked in various clinical settings, including primary care, family practice, and women’s health. She has conducted research and published peer-reviewed articles on promoting healthy lifestyles and reducing risks for chronic disease. Jane currently teaches graduate nursing at the University of Missouri Kansas City and works as a nurse practitioner in employee health for the city of Overland Park, Kansas. Married with three grown children, Jane tries to visit her two small grandsons as often as possible and enjoys gardening, hiking, quilting, and reading.
